Summer STEAM Camp 2025 

Applications for the 2025 Summer Steam Camp have now opened up! This is a free residential camp open to 5-9th graders that will be taking place at North Carolina State University from June 15th-20th. Applications will be due by April 9, 2025

Camp Information

Global Health Connections International Summer Science Camp (GHCISSC) is organized to provide activities, experiments, projects, and field experiences for students who will be entering the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th grades during the 2025-26 school year. The camp promotes science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education and supports students with limited opportunities and access. Students attend the camp free of charge. Students who are currently in grades 5 – 9, who have an interest in science and mathematics b) at least a B average in science and mathematics courses and c) a passing score on the state’s standardized science and mathematics tests are eligible to apply. Immediate family members of the university staff and GHCISSC camp staff are not eligible.

 

The GHCISSC is a one week, academic, residential camp for forty-eight students that emphasizes students’ mathematics and science knowledge and skills while introducing them to college life.  Ultimately, the Global Health Connections International camp endeavors to stimulate students’ interest in science and engineering as a potential career path. Campers will attend classes that include problem solving, research, critical thinking and communication skills incorporated into biology, chemistry, physics, environmental sciences, earth sciences, engineering, technology and design concepts, in addition to going on field excursions. Certified secondary teachers, university faculty, and seasoned professionals will serve as instructors. 

The 48 camp participants will be selected from Bertie, Durham, Edgecombe, Granville, Guilford, Halifax, Martin, Nash, Robeson, Vance, Wake, Warren, and Wilson Counties.

Application Process

  • Parent/Guardian and student complete requested information on the attached Student Application Form

  • Parent/Guardian or student gives the request for records to the student’s school registrar

  • Parent/Guardian or student gives a recommendation form to the student’s current science teacher and current mathematics teacher 

  • Student composes a 250-word essay

If all requested documents are not received by the deadline date, the application will not be considered. A committee will select campers on April 25, 2025. You will receive notification on the status of the application no later than April 30, 2025. Students may be interviewed prior to being selected, if deemed necessary.
