 CAMP COUNSELORS

Jalen Mills is an inspiring and innovative educator. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2018. For the past two years, she has been teaching in Wake County Public Schools, where she’s dedicated to shaping young minds and fostering a love for learning and critical thinking. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys exploring new destinations through travel, giving back to my community through service initiatives, and cherishing moments with family and friends. 

 

 

 

 

Azaria Prescod is a May 2024 graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science and a minor in Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was an active member of the UNC All Girls Club Cheerleading team for 3 years and has been cheering since 2015. She has made this an important part of her life. Currently,  Azaria is exploring a wide range of job opportunities within the  computer science field to broaden her horizons and discover her  innate passion. 

 

 

 

Lauryn Goins serves as the  GHCI Camp Data Manager. She was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina. Lauryn is a culturally enlightened student dedicated to transforming her weaknesses into strengths. She attended the 2015 ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp. Earning her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from North Carolina Central University in May 2024, she will be pursuing a master’s in athletic administration at NCCU in the fall. Her long-term goal is to enroll in a Doctor of Physical Therapy program to serve underserved, minority, communities nationally and globally. As a 2023 Goodmon Fellow, she is deeply committed to community service. In the spirit of Truth and Service, she has a rich history of community involvement, including 10 years as a Girl Scout and serving on multiple executive boards for non-profits in the Triangle area.

 

Shelby McDuffie is a recent graduate with Highest Distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill earning dual degrees in Biology and Exercise and Sports Science. She was able to achieve highest distinction and highest academic honors while working as a Resident Advisor, serving as a leader in multiple organizations, and being the NAACP Community Service Chair. She organized events, while also being a remote intern for the Generation YES program. She worked as a substitute teacher honing her skills in leadership, mentorship, time management, conflict resolution, and much more. While at UNC, Shelby received the very prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Award, Renwick Scholar, The Gates Scholarship, and recognition as a Carolina Firsts Scholar. She also studied abroad in Seville, Spain, gaining valuable insights into different cultures and perspectives. Shelby loves to travel and has been to various states for enjoyment. Being able to make a positive impact on the lives of others, regardless of their age or background, is something that brings her immense joy and fulfillment. She looks forward to continuing this work for many years to come.
